Bradley desperately wanted to shoot a picture of the Felucia he’d created, but it wasn’t coming out with the old Canon IS2S. Break out the Nikon with the 2.8 lens, and voila, a happy Bradley, complete with fire-based planet (i.e.: piano console, wire Easter basket, brass lamp and a little red added in Photoshop. Strange how that Easter basket looks like a building with windows and a balcony, just about the right size for some grand Lego shoot out in which no human people ever die).

In the shadow of the George Washington Bridge.
We wanted to get an idea of what the neighborhood is like.
Can I take your picture?

No English, but a nod and a point to my camera gave permission…

…suspiciously.

Rooftop playground…

… but who needs a slide?

There is much work to be done.

… and sometimes there are breaks.

Half the number to call for a free lunch…
(The picture reveals the precise location and cross street.)
Chewing the fat, but nobody’s listening.
I heard him.
He was complaining, something about a bus that never stopped.
Can I take your picture?

“Only if I win!”
Not interested in puddles.
Large wads of bills being exchanged on the street corner. I make no assumptions.

They sell beepers. I think.
“Don’t hate the player, hate the move.”
The obligatory taxi shot, complete with busy Dominican grocery in background.
We meet again! And this time I get a knowing smile. I made a friend today!
And finally, my favorite shot of the day…
Gregory figures his name is Fernando.

Michael, Deborah, Rachel and Stephanie are visiting from Canada. Last time they visited, they were living in Chile. Before that, Argentina. I just love when they visit. Even though they’ve lived all over the world, when they come back to Metuchen, it’s like they never left, except for the fact that Rachel and Stephanie are growing up!

I posted the “purple” cicada picture on my Tree site today. Thought I’d share the “green” picture with you, so we could think about backgrounds. Which one looks better? Green or purple? I chose the purple one to post on the tree site because it helped define which tree the cicada was in. Hmmm. But the green one shows the cicada’s silhouette better. Wanna vote for the one you like best?

Finally getting around to going through our vacation pictures. Bradley and Gregory LOVE the aquarium. I love being able to stand back and watch Bradley and Gregory.

This is what we mean when we say “photojournalism portrait.”
This is SO Jamie.

This one says, “Julie said to grab mom around the neck, not choke her!”
This one says, “I’d rather be sleeping.”

Quote of the day: The phone rang during dinner, no doubt a telemarketer. When he hung up, Mike mumbled something about a department at USC on a fundraising campaign.
Bradley tried to make sense of the mumbled words. “Arson Sciences?”
“Yeah, see, in that department, they teach people the best way to burn things down.”

I saw Gregory running down the hill while we were on vacation in the Catskills, and the theme song from “Little House on the Prairie” kept running through my head.
Daaaah daah daah daaaah daah daah da da da.
I fully expected him to fall in the grass, which, by the way, he did! The picture would be perfect if I’d had the presence of mind to make the shot a series of shots, complete with the fall. One problem: the satellite dish in the background. When we arrived back at the hotel, Gregory was desperate for a bath, and it’s no wonder the bath water was quickly dotted with bug guts from the field. So we wonder now: since Laura Ingalls wouldn’t have taken a bath every day, was her bed full of bug guts?
