Kaptain Karl Endures My Macro Lens

eye1
I think my cat is finally used to my camera.

lashes
Love the lashes.

eye2
He’s got beautiful eyes on a sunny day.

eye3
See? (On cloudy days, they turn grey.)

ear
Never thought he’d let me this close to his ear!

dandruff
Oh man, he’s got major dandruff.

I never noticed that before.

I knew that macro lens would come in handy!

window
How’d I get him to sit still for me? Ha! I left the blinds closed all morning, so by the time I got home from my photo shoot with Jennifer and Jeff and their adorable baby (pictures coming soon!) the Kaptain was practically mooing at me to let the sunshine in.

nose2
That cat wasn’t moving a muscle.

nose
The end of my lens was almost touching his nose.

whiskers
I LOVE this shot of his whiskers!

But soon after, he jumped down under the dining room table.

tongue
Who’s stalking who now?

I got new slide show software, so I thought I’d try it out. Same pictures as above, but with a Brandenburg concerto. (I started to use bird sound effects, but it just seemed mean.)

Our Lia at 6 months

lia6mth-w01.jpg
Good morning!

Bath time.

I am very lucky Lia is so interested in my big camera!

This is the stereotypical “putting on the wedding dress” shot, taken back, oh, say, 25 or 30 years.

Those EYES!

Nap time.

Nap time.

Play time.

Feeding time.

Mommy time.

Grandma Angie

Grandma Angie is 104 years old.

Maybe it’s just me, but WOW, she looks fabulous!

This is Angie’s friend, Janine, looking through some photo albums.

This is Angie’s daughter, Delores.

Angie is blessed to have such good friends and family.

Angie’s parents, sometime around the 1880s or 90s.

MIKE’S A GRANDPA!

Introducing Lisabeth!

She is the daughter of Lauren and Guy.

Lauren is Mike’s daughter. He is one happy grandpa!

Isn’t she cute?
(She just came home from the hospital today.)

Everybody say, “Awwwww!”
Uncle Bradley and Uncle Gregory are very proud of their new niece!

(I am still unclear as to whether this makes me a grandmother. “Stepgrandmother” is just too weird. Maybe I can have her call me Jules. Yeah, that’s easy.)

A Very Late Night

Mike is out of town, so Bradley and Gregory had to come to the Times with me tonight. Gregory watches “The Iron Giant.” (Thank God for built-in DVD players.)

See the clocks in the distance? It is just past midnight.

Look at those dark circles under Gregory’s eyes. Poor kid.

Bradley fits right in — looking at one’s screen while playing with a Star Wars toy is perfectly within the realm of reality here.

(Darth Vader has guarded my computer against intruders since before Gregory was born.)

Yo Frankie!

Frank is actually WAY beyond 40, having missed his original birthday party due to an unfortunate, uh, “infection.”But his family (that’s “family” with a small f of course) came from all over the Soprano state to poke fun — I mean celebrate — just the same.Frankie was having a very difficult time seeing the menu at Main Street Trattoria.
Good thing Heidi rented the entire restaurant for the day…… plenty of people to help.

Vinnie da Wrench (that may very well be a fake name) came to deliver a “message.”

I don’t think he wanted me taking pictures while he was there.

So I turned off the flash and took some anyway. Shhh.

Happy birthday, Frank!
As Vinnie put it so eloquently, “Gettin’ old ain’t as bad as you might tink. We both know plenty of guys who woulda wished dey coulda lived ta be forty.”

Click here for the slide show!
(Nobody send the link to Vinnie though. He was glaring at my camera when he reminisced about some guy named Fat Tony who tried to swim across Newark Bay with a refrigerator tied around his neck.)

Mamarazzi at Work

Gregory’s playdate friends are no more safe from my camera than my own children. There’s a reason they call me “mamarazzi.”

And Here She Is!

A sneak peak at Lia’s 6-month photo shoot!

Thank God for baby’s nap!
(I love this shot.)

More pictures to come.
I love photographing Lia!

I Have a Date With Lia Tomorrow!

I love Lia’s eyes.

As Lia’s personal “first year” documentarian, I was happy to make some time to shoot some pictures of her first Christmas, but it wasn’t quite the right time for her 6-month-shoot. So, I’m going over tomorrow to get some more shots.

She apparently enjoys her toes quite a lot.

Or maybe she just enjoys chewing on things.

Maybe it’s because she’s cutting teeth! Ouch!

Tomorrow we’re hoping to get some bathtime shots, maybe some naptime shots, or, as usual, we’ll just wing it. I look for any excuse to hang out with Lia. She’s so adorable!

Consequences for a Hectic Life

Gregory’s winter concert was today. I missed it because I fell asleep on the couch. (Most of you probably know I rarely sleep more than 4 hours a night because of my crazy schedule.) The concert started at 10:15. At 11, I jumped awake, threw on my coat and ran. But by the time I got there, it was over. I walked slowly to Gregory’s classroom, my head bowed low from shame. He ran up to me. “Mommy! You ARE here! Were you in the back? I didn’t see you.”

I thought for a moment that I could answer yes and be off the hook. Aren’t all kindergarten concerts the same? Very crowded. I could easily have been in the back and not have been seen. I knelt down and put my arms around him and whispered, “I’m so sorry, Gregory. I just got here. I missed the concert.”

He stood and with a big smile and holding my hand, waved bye to his teacher, as if to pretend at being happy. He was silent on the walk to the car while I tried to explain how sorry I was that I missed his concert. Then when we were both safely buckled in, all Gregory said was this: “I love you, Mom.”

I am an undeserving recipient of unconditional forgiveness. And I can’t stop smiling because of Gregory.
