Didn’t know I could test model for myself!
Isn’t Gregory Oh-So-Cool?!

This week only, I’m shooting in the studio while I set up some lighting. No sitting fee, free inket 8×10. (Can’t guarantee the quality of the inkjet print today, though, as I’ve just now discovered I’m getting some nasty lines in my prints. If I can’t get it to work, I’ll get you a lab print, no charge.)

These show Kathryn’s “serious” look. (Truthfully, I’m messing with light settings and pointing the camera at her and saying, “Turn this way, now look right into the camera, ok, turn that way, no no don’t smile, just let me see how this works.”

She’s a really great test model! I’ll put up Kathryn’s “fun” pictures later.

I’m in the process of setting up an actual studio with what I term “creative lighting” so that I can provide studio shots with an edgy flair. My children have gotten to the point that they need to be bribed to sit for me. (The shot above cost me a half hour of Star Wars Battlefront.) So, as a little incentive while I’m setting everything up, I’m doing free studio portraits. No sitting fee and you take home a free 8×10 off my inkjet. This week only so better hurry and call me!

Jessica turned 16 last week.
She invited some friends over and they had a great time modeling for me!

Jessica looks gorgeous!

I love this shot. The hands complete the circle of friends.

I would love to have pictures like this of my friends when I was in high school!

Ok, I love this one too!
The girls are naturals at hitting a pose!

Jess’s friend, Jaime, of Mane Expressions in Clark, came over to do the girls’ hair.

I tried to get a natural, unposed, picture of each of the girls. I love the colors in this one.

I love “getting ready” shots!

I was also looking to capture the everyday stuff. I love the drama of this shot.

I had as much fun as the girls did!

Like I said, contagious smiles!

The girls know each other through cheerleading, but they all go to different schools. How cool is that?

The obligatory “hair-flip.”

I see this one framed on the bedside table.

All good parties have a cake.

Jess is so sweet. Theresa had a knee injury and couldn’t do any serious running or jumping. So rather than have her friend sit out the jump shot, Jessica made sure everyone was in the picture. (I love that.)

This is a sweet shot of Jess and Marissa.

I’m so jealous of Jessica. She has such great friends! Thank you all for being such great models for me and for having such a great time!

But beware: if you’re one of those women (like me, for example) who cries at Hallmark commercials, better get out the tissues ‘cuz this one is suh-WEET!

I mentioned a few days ago about going through the old 2006 picture folder. Today I came across this one of Bradley at Holmdel Park. This one’s
definitely going in the book! Bradley looks so — so —
warm. I miss summer (she said, shivering).
This picture sits on my dining room table (that would be the table covered with photo junk that hasn’t seen a DISH since last March). Most of my photo clients have seen this picture. I use it to show the nice quality of the prints I get from my large format inkjet printer. I printed Bradley’s park picture as a 13×19 on satin paper and it’s simply GORGEOUS — except the ink ran out right about at Bradley’s head. So, I let my clients hold the big beautiful print, run their fingers across it, see how an inkjet print that has been sitting on that table full of stuff holds up after time. All of my other client prints come from a really fab lab, but I LOVE when a client springs for one of these inkjet prints — I call them “poster prints.” They look great in a 20×26 frame with a deep mat. And they’re quick and easy. (Quick and easy as long as I remember to change out the ink tanks, that is.)
The book, by the way, is a 650-page book celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Quotes and Thoughts. Can’t wait to give you a preview! Stay tuned.
In the meantime, here’s another shot from Holmdel Park. Does this kid look seriously
hot or what?! Taken inside one of those bright colored tube things. Nary a smidge of photoshop work on this one. Gregory’s sweaty hair adds some realism, no? Oh how I long for summer.

Bradley’s glass of milk is dangerously close to the edge of the table. Meanwhile, Gregory’s arm is dangerously close to Bradley’s glass.
I can see myself ten minutes from now scrubbing the floor with wet paper towels and dabbing milk from the chair cushions. My brain kicks into MAT mode. (Mom Avoidance Tactic, from that child rearing manual they don’t give you at the maternity ward.)
I reach over. “Let’s move this glass,” I say. “I’m glimpsing the future.”
Bradley responds in his James Earl Jones voice, “Train yourself to let go of your fears.”

It was 20 degrees when Bradley and our car pool companion, Kathryn, made their way to the car from school the other day. Kathryn sat beside me in the front seat. “Aren’t you cold?” I said, eyeing her knee-length pants and skimpy sneakers.
“Yeah,” Bradley said from the backseat, “what’s with the capris?”
“They’re not capris,” Kathryn said, “they’re leggings.” She paused. “You BOY.”
As for me, I was impressed that my son knew enough to refer to her pants as capris and not “shorts.”

My new pocket wizard system triggers my off-camera flash wirelessly. My flash is positioned just behind the half wall, underneath the lamp.

No flash. The difference is the focal point of the picture. In the top picture, the focal point is the bronze flxture of the lamp. The nice thing about this is that you can see and appreciate the shape and texture of the lamp arm and that’s the focus of the shot.
In the bottom picture, the thing that stands out the most is the out-of-focus bright background.
If I were selling my lamp, I’d use the top picture.

My friend, Baden, who arrives in NYC much earlier than I do, went to B&H to pick up my new pocket wizard for me. So I snapped a few pictures of him. I LOVE this shot! Very cool. (No one is immune from the mamarazzi!)
