The Birth of Japanese Red Maple Leaves

jrm-42407.jpg

The Japanese red maple is one of my favorite trees. I believe her best time is spring. Gorgeous red color through June, and the emerging leaves are like old hands uncurling to grasp a morning coffee. I don’t know why they make me think of that. I guess they just look like they’re waking up, stretching their arms to the sky. Which I guess is exactly what they’re doing.

  1. Hi Julie:
I wrote this haiku last month. Should have sent it then!

    Overnight

All up and down my street,

    maple trees hearing the call,

    opened their red leaves!
