Lia Is One!

A large part of the success of my photography business can be attributed to this little sweetie, Lia. I’ve been photographing her since she was 1 month old, and all along the way, I’ve been getting fantastic images of her and her mom and dad for my portfolio. On June 30, she turned 1 year old. It was a great party on a beautiful day. Click the picture — or click here — to jump straight to the slide show. Turn up the sound, and when the slide show is finished, it will jump back here where you can read some details about some of the images and leave a comment for Lia!

This is Lia’s cousin.

This is the beautiful smiling face Lia sees when her grandmother visits!

This is the moment when everyone at the party was staring at Lia and singing Happy Birthday.

Instead of blowing out the candle, Lia reached out and touched the flame with her finger. This is the split second AFTER she did that. (We morose adults couldn’t help laughing at her reaction. She just sort of stared at the candle like “how dare you.” Poor Lia.)

Then she looked at me like “why are you taking pictures of this? Can’t you see I’m hurt here?”

Then (because mom is dying laughing with the rest of us), Lia looks to dad for comfort…

…which she gets (while mom steals a little chocolate behind her back).

Ok, not really. Mom was actually just getting a little chocolate on her finger so she could give Lia her first taste EVER of chocolate!

I’m not the only one documenting this moment. Lia’s grandfather is also shooting. (Hence the strange light in the “hugging dad” picture — I caught some of John’s flash!)

And here it is — the piece de resistance — the “first taste of chocolate” picture! (We’ve completely forgotten about the candle incident. Phew. Thank God for chocolate.)

This little boy was inside on the porch when I shot this picture. I love it!

Glory led a special blessing for Lia. It was really sweet.

You know I love the walking shots.

If you didn’t catch the slide show yet, I threw in a little surprise toward the end!

I LOVE this slide show and I will always cherish my special relationship with Lia and her mom and dad. I will miss you all so much. (But you better call me for future birthday parties, graduations, uh, a wedding. You know I love those “getting ready” shots!)

Doreen and Paul: A Few Favorites

I love the guitar pictures from this shoot!

The girls are taking lessons, and so I had them both play for me. They were great!

It was part of the great afternoon I had with Doreen and Paul…

…and their girls…

…and their dog, Princess.

Princess is high energy!

And loves the big slobbery kisses!

I love this shot.

And this one too.

The girls are also taking dance classes, so they donned their dance costumes and showed me their routines.

I love the “getting ready” shots.

And the family shots are nice too.

I love the natural light in this. So soft and beautiful!

Doreen and Paul’s slide show is private, but if you know them, call them or shoot them an e-mail and I’m sure they’ll tell you how to get to it. It’s SO fun! Thanks for everything, Doreen and Paul! I really enjoyed working with you and your girls! Give Princess a kiss for me!

Fireworks From the 22nd Floor

Turn up the sound and click the picture for a cool slide show!

fireworks2

It’s funny how so many New York Times staffers independently migrated to the 22nd floor to watch the fireworks (after the national edition deadline, of course).
A great vantage point on a rainy night, and a great view too!

Wacky Wednesday: Waiting for the Train

clown.jpg

Now that I’m taking the train into Manhattan every day, I thought it might be fun to try something new for the blog: “Wacky Wednesday.” Every Wednesday, I’ll post something a little on the strange side from my travels each week. After three weeks of taking the train every day, I am convinced this will be a very easy task. (Though the Times security guards have convinced me that carrying my big camera down Eighth Avenue at 1 a.m. is probably not the best course of action, so I don’t think I’ll be putting up that many night shots.)

So, about today: it’s Independence Day, but for me, it’s like any other day commuting on the train. Except there’s a clown waiting for the train, and he refuses to acknowledge to me that he is, in fact, wearing a clown costume.

Sneak Peek: Jane and Ed

I had a fun photo shoot and picnic with Jane and Ed the other day. Since I have so many sessions to edit right now, I thought I’d post a little preview of some of the fun ones. I like the one above because it really shows off the closeness and humor of this big extended family. Uh, let’s just call this “not your father’s family portrait.” (My friend in the center had earlier demonstrated his skill at tickling, so we turned the tables on him!)

I had fun with the grandkids — oldest to youngest, and they’re all very close.

They really enjoyed the jumping shots! So did I! Ya’ll check back soon for your slide show! Lots more fun ones to show you!
