THE SCENE: MY KITCHEN, THIS MORNING
Bradley runs into the kitchen shaking. “Sp-sp-sp-i-der!”
Much screaming ensues, and after quite a battle, the spider the size of Idaho is in serious need of a grave.
Gregory stands on a chair for a while, shaking, then disappears into the living room in search of a spider book to identify Mr. Idaho. He returns to the kitchen empty handed, his hands clasped as in prayer. Quietly, slowly, he looks up at me with those big brown eyes. Gregory does not like bugs. The fact that there was a huge spider in the house has him totally freaked. “Mom,” he whispers, “we have to move.”

We had its cousin, Mr. Texas, here the other morning. Not. Three. Inches. From. My. Bare. Foot. *shudder*
Picture an anorexic tarantula, but with less hair.
Ask Hayley about it sometime.

There was a huge spider at the outdoor reception a few weeks ago. We were way out in the country and all these people were just staring at it. They asked me to “get it” — like I wanted to do that. I knocked it off the chair and everyone yelled at me: “you didn’t get it!” I “got” it in the grass. I didn’t want to smear up the chair. That would’ve been gross. It was probably four inches wide. Not real skinny legs like a daddy-longlegs, either.
At least I think I got it. That’s what I told everyone. I didn’t check my shoe, though.

I agree fully with Gregory!! I used to use a REALLY HUGE nursing book for that job when I was in school. I’m sure the guy who lived under me enjoyed it! :o)

Oh my goodness! There was one of those in my son’s sandbox this afternoon. I am still shivering - I have never seen anything like it!
