In Loving Memory of Sid

I received word just now that Sid Riddlestorffer went home to be with the Lord this morning around 1:30. He was 97 years old and lived a full and wonderful life.

Sid was such a dear friend to me, always encouraging and teaching me, inspiring me to find creative ways to be involved in the mission of our church. He had a way of bringing me out of my busy schedule and into a world where people live for the moment when a visitor will arrive, unexpectedly sharing in some great old Psalm, made new by the way Sid read it.

We will miss you, Sid, but we are certain that Jesus welcomed you with open arms. Well done, good and faithful servant.

The memorial service for Sidney Riddlestorffer Jr. will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Metuchen. Click here to read an obit in the Asbury Park Press.

Today marks 3 years since my beloved grandfather went home to be with the Lord. I miss him as much today as ever but am so very thankful for the lessons I learned from him.

Sid sounds like such a sweet and loved man. This is a beautiful tribute and I am so glad to have found it. I do not know Sid nor any of your family, you all seem like lovely people.

I am purchasing a pretty Victorian house on Bryant Street in Rahway, NJ where either he or his father lived between 1940-1955. I have been doing research on the history of the house. I found his name listed (or his father’s) in the Polk’s City Directory of Rahway NJ on ancestry.com.

I love knowing that such a sweet man and his family lived there before me!

      Thank you,
      Lara

I was lucky enough to serve on Mission for several years with Sid. He was, in phrasing of the day, “The Real Deal.” My husband, son, and I last visited with him the week before Christmas. We hoped to lift him up with our visit and came away lifted up by him instead. And now that he is happily ensconced with Jesus and with his beloved “Maudie,” our world is slightly diminished with his passing.

    God bless you, Sid.

I have come across your website tonight, I live in Australia whilst looking for Riddlestorffer cousins and find with sadness that Sid has died. His grandson Jim was in contact with me about 3 years ago and we lost contact and I wonder if perhaps you could pass on my email address to him so that we can start up again. He adored Sid and spoke of him often and it has given me goosebumps seeing him on the screen.

I hope this isn’t too much of an inconvenience.

    Yours sincerely
    Rosemary Barrett

I never had the chance to get to know Sid in person. But after all I’ve heard about him the past few months, these images show exactly what I would have expected: a man full of the joy of life who brings that joy to those around him. Thank you for sharing these pictures.
