A Light Comparison

All natural light from a window, camera right, and another one behind Bradley, camera left.

I turned the lamp on, and man, what a difference! Not sure which one I like better. Still, it’s interesting to study how light changes everything. I think the bottom one is more dramatic, and the top one is more natural. Hmmm, which one do you like better?

HOLY COWABUNGA…. Bradley is SO grown up! When did that happen?! HUBBA HUBBA!

Work it out with the available light! :D

I too like the top one better. I find 2 things distract from the subject in the bottom one: the light being on draws my attention to the lamp and it lights up that little section in his eyeglasses that make me notice them more. Those issues aside, I also like the top one with the one light source.

How did Bradley hold the exact same pose while you stopped to turn on the light? Barely a difference in expression…..

    Top one. Lamp too distracting.

Also: need link to latest slide show!

I like the bottom one for the contrast and the pop in the background, but I like the soft, wrap quality of light on his face in the top shot better.

I agree with Justin that I like the colors better on the top one. I also prefer natural light.

I like the top one better for a couple of reasons. First the yellow of the room is richer and not washed out by the intensity of the close light. Second the lamp has an effect on his glasses that the sun light does not. From the viewer’s perspective, the right side of the right lens gets an unnatural shiny effect that doesn’t occur in the sun shot.
