All About Town at Six Months Old

This was a day-in-the-life shoot I did for a sweet six-month-old who is participating in my “year in the life” plan. If you know this family, send them an e-mail to see their slide show. It’s beautiful!

The picture above took my breath away when I first downloaded all the pictures! The colors in the sky are beautiful and contrast so nicely with the clothing and natural colors of the harbor, but I especially love how graphic it is. Notice how things on the edges of the picture are pointing at our mom and baby in the center? The clouds, the stroller, the rocks, the distant shore — I love that!

This shot is so cool — the baby’s on his changing table having some sort of discussion with his mom and his uncle.

Mom, baby and I went for a walk in the beautiful evening light.

But long before that, the baby’s grandmother, and some friends, came over for a dip in the baby pool and some watermelon. First, some sunscreen, above. I love the look on his face, like “Ooooh! That feels GOOD!”

That’s grandma and a sweet little friend!

Isn’t she adorable? Hint to all my clients reading this: how did I get this great shot of this cute little girl? Her mom sat back, ignoring the photo session, and let me and her daughter just play. THAT’S the secret!

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures.

I love day-in-the-life sessions! Capturing these special, fleeting, moments is really so important. Before you know it, that little boy will be taller than her and asking to go to the Lego Store for the billionth time. (Oh, that’s MY son, sorry.)

For now, we’ll just hang out together at the park.

This one was taken only a few minutes later, from a different angle. I just love the colors!

Here’s my friend again. She’s such a sweetie!

We shot for a few posed portraits with mom and her sister. What a gorgeous family! You may remember them from the baby’s baptism pictures. I love how the clothing is coordinated, but doesn’t match. Good job on the wardrobe planning! Your baby book is going to look like pages right out of a catalog for sure!

I knew mom would be heading out the door, and I was anticipating her walking away as being a way to end the slide show, but I thought for once it would add a sense of drama if the picture was blurry, like a dream. I love how it came out! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

I hope the family enjoyed the slide show. It’s one of my favorites for sure!

Those are truly beautiful moments captured! I’m sure they are enjoying these and I’m looking forward to seeing more. Babies just grow up so fast that you can’t take enough pictures of them.

  2. What a great session Julie. Love the color and emotion in these. Beautiful!!! I wish like crazy I had something like this of me and my boys.

Julie, as a loyal blog fan, your slide shows always make me appreciate the little moments in life and I get home from work and hug my kids even tighter. Can you please send me the link to this one? Please please? Thank you for being a bright spot on the world wide web.

What an amazing job of capturing the true beauty of a Mother with Child. Too often moms are behind the camera, and they lose those “magical” moments spent with their child. What a gift!

I love the photo by the window…and the after bath time is soooo precious! You really have a way of capturing life!

  9. Grandpa David says:

    Dear Kirsten,
You, grandson Alex and the family are very special and it shows in the photos. Always know you all have a special place in my heart and in South Carolina. Please keep the precious memories coming my way.
    Love, Grandpa David

  10. Aunt Laura says:

They are beautiful! You really captured some special moments. I wish I did this when my daughter was little.

  11. Kirsten says:

Julie, We had so much fun that day and you really did capture the giddiness and the sublime happiness that are my “everyday” with Alexander. And I know what else you were doing, or maybe we both were…this is the sunny day, the rainbow after the storm. This is me righting the boat and embracing my role as Alex’s parent. I’m glad you are here to see us both grow this year.

  12. michelle says:

I just saw that blurry one in larger form on your web site gallery and Julie, it’s so unique! It’s like that feeling you get in the morning when your eyes don’t quite work right. What a fantastic, original photograph. It made me stop and think and reflect. I’m amazed by your talent.

  13. Lesley says:

Im in tears, Julie. Thank you so much for doing such a fantastic job. You caputured so much of Alex’s and Kirsten (and Cadence’s!) personality. I keep watching it over and over!!
