Like Sunlight Shining at Midnight

In the picture above, Doriann and Frank were inside getting ready for our trip to the horse farm when I went out back with their little girl. That’s usually when I get the best pictures of children — when mom and dad have become preoccupied with something else. That allows me to encourage the children to play with me and my camera and we always have a great time working on close-up shots!

They came to the horse farm prepared with a whole bunch of carrots.

Before we left, we played in the cul de sac. I love this shot! I always smile when I get a shot that has a lot going on, yet tells a simple story. Big car, little car, big smile on her face, watchful eyes on his. Plus there are some nice zig zag angles in this shot. Do you see them?

She’s doing great on her bike!

And that one too! That’s a different bike, I think they called it a “hog,” with a big front wheel.

We went to The Raptor Trust, a wild bird rehabilitation center in Millington. Above, we were watching some big falcons on the rooftops.

We also went to the driving range where Frank takes his daughter to learn about golf.

She’s a good student!

The light there was so pretty.

Later, we stopped at a park, where Doriann was having fun swinging her daughter around. I love the flying hair in this one.

Monkey in the middle!

How do you get a young child who only wants to play into the family picture? Tell her, “This is mommy and daddy’s picture only; you go wait over there.” Ha! Works (almost) every time!

This is my favorite one from this series. I was shooting into the sun hoping to capture an emotional piece of what I call “family art.” Doriann told me how much she loves her family and how she considers her daughter to be a miracle. So I wanted to capture a feeling of darkness into light — a miracle. Anyway, that’s what I was going for with this shot and I love it! It looks awesome big!
