I have taken pictures on many a carousel. Riding backwards while looking through a huge camera takes a bit of practice.

Keep reading for today’s blog contest!

All the pictures in this post except one were taken at a park somewhere in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut.

Isn’t he adorable? (He stole the show from his sister this year, who stole it from him at their shoot last year.)

It’s quite difficult to steal the show from her!

Together, they are one cool set of siblings.

Here’s the contest question. For an iTunes gift card for yourself, and a hefty dose of blog praise, where do the carousel animals live?

    Nobody says “cheese” around me!

    Isn’t her hair the best?!

The park also has a great playground. Above, he’s driving a little car, or, pretending to run me down, not sure which.

She’s riding on a little train in this picture, but you can’t tell. She thought the background would be too busy because the train was packed with people. I assured her I could handle this problem by shooting with a wide aperture and blurring out the background. How’d I do? Next year, you’ll trust me, right?
    ;)

No park is complete without a water fountain. Probably works better if it isn’t clogged though. (I love that shot!)

It takes a certain sort of strong stomach to ride a carousel backwards and take pictures through a viewfinder. Much easier to take your shot while standing on the side, as in this shot! The trick is, when riding backwards: don’t take your eye away from the viewfinder!

I suppose if you’ve been to that park, you might recognize this architectural feature. Or not.

In the summer, that blue thingie just might be a sprinkler.

This one was not taken in the park. Wow! So much room in that van! I love my signature car-riding shot!

(Julie, just keep your eye on the viewfinder.)

Lots of hiking trails and picnic tables behind the playground.

Some really great playground equipment here, but be prepared for a crowd in spring, summer and fall.

I love jumping shots! They are so much fun to take as the photographer, so much fun to be in as the subject, and so much fun to look at as the viewer!

As has been noted in the blog before, I love a nice mother/daughter shot. Katie has great jewelry! Check out her Web site!

I knew I was getting old when a ride on a carousel with my daughter made my stomach go all woozy. Great job with these shots! Is this park Greenbelt on Staten Island? I just know they have a carousel with cool animals.

Not having the east coast benefit of Mr. Richman i am going to take a huge stab in the dark and guess Camden Children’s Garden.
    Love your work Julie.

  5. Matt Richman says:

Boy, I don’t think you come up this way too often, but I’m going to guess Van Saun Park in Paramus.

Oh, nice pictures, by the way!!!! :)

(I’m so jazzed about winning the gift card, I almost forgot to comment on the pictures.)
