Where Were You?
Â

I watched the Inauguration at the middle school.
Â

I imagine this was just one among thousands of middle schools and high schools across the nation where students gathered to watch history unfold.
Â

It is highly unusual for the entire student body to gather for an assembly.
Â

Everyone was excited when the Obamas were introduced.
Â

They were almost as excited when the classical quartet was introduced. I love that!
Â

Anthony McGill had such a pure clarinet sound, even broadcast on TV, and then piped through the school’s sound system. Wow!
Â

I was lucky that Bradley, bottom left, was in my line of sight when President Obama was being sworn in. When people ask him, oh, say, 30 years from now, “Where were you?” he can show them this picture.
Â

I think it’s interesting to capture the technology that was used to make this live-streaming presentation happen. Thinking back to my own middle school years, an assembly like this would never have happened. We would have had to watch such an event on TVs in our classrooms, on one of only three available channels. This one was projected from the computer teacher’s laptop.
Â

I had the sense that President Obama was talking directly to these children.
Â

And children like them all over the country.
Â

More pictures on my Facebook page.
Now you know where I was. Where were you?
Thank you Julie for capturing this very historic day in the lives of our children.
Thanks to Rick Warren, prayer was allowed in our public schools. AMEN!
I completely missed it, and have been catching glimpses on CNN here and there. I feel lucky to have found your blog though. The images are so fresh and clear, and provide a personal touch on a local level. Thanks for posting your story.
This is a wonderful blog entry. I loved seeing the school children watching our new President, enjoying it, cheering, learning. I watched coverage at work and at home last night…what a great day for America!
At the intersection of Main & 27 during the oath. Put off leaving the house as long as possible, but the quartet was still playing at 12:02!
I was on the MALL! SOOOOOOOOOO exciting. I kept thinking about you and your photography. Julie, you should be the Obama Family’s personal photographer.
I was on the train. They played the oath over the loudspeakers and everybody cheered! That was awesome.
It’s great that you captured this for the kids. Thirty years from now they’ll be passing these images around on whatever little handheld computers they have by then. I guess. Kudos to the tech people that organized the presentation. These things don’t just happen without a lot of planning.
they showed it to my daughter’s kindergarten class!
