First Sign of Spring: Snowdrops

Ever since we moved in 12 years ago, this one little snowdrop by the front door has blossomed just after Valentine’s Day. It’s been there a long time, so I treated my first picture as antique, thinking about the previous owners of our house who raised their four children here. They lived in our house for 26 years!

They moved away when the children had all moved out and started families of their own. And, sadly, the mom could no longer deal with the stairs. But it makes me happy to imagine her lovingly digging in the dirt by the front stoop, maybe as long ago as 1970.

I kind of doubt the snowdrop is that old though.

It even spawned a few more snowdrops since we’ve lived here.

Or, at least I think it has. We used to have a bunch of evergreen bushes here, which were cut down last summer. I only ever noticed one snowdrop in the past, but this year I can see several flowers!

I love the little heart shape on the side! I’m getting SO excited for spring! Yay DIRT!
