A Few From the Sunrise Service

It’s unusual for most of us to be out when the sun is just coming up. So things are surprising, and beautiful, with a color palette that we aren’t used to seeing. It’s sort of like autumn, except the warm beauty of the rich golds and browns happen every sunny morning. Usually, we’re either sleeping, or rushing around getting ready for work so busily that we don’t have time to appreciate the beauty of a sunrise. That’s one of the reasons I love the Easter Sunrise Service at my church.

Not only do we get a golden sun, we also get BELLS!

It was cold and breezy that Easter morning. I imagine: Was it cold and breezy with warm tones of rich golds and browns on the first Easter morning?

The Sunrise Service is held in the cemetery, weather permitting. I think that means as long as it isn’t raining or snowing. We can take the cold.

Our three guitarists must have fingers of steel though. I don’t know how they can play guitar when it’s that cold!

Our senior pastor gave three different sermons on Easter! I love how the cross is framed by the people in this image.

I was standing really far away with a long lens so I (hopefully) wouldn’t bother anybody. But the great thing was that I could still hear everything that was going on. We must have pretty good portable speakers.

They ran out of chairs. Good problem to have!

The bells are so beautiful in the sunlight, and in this shot especially, taken before the service began. I love the reflection of the steeple, the sparkling sunflare, and the bare trees setting the winter-like scene.

Incidentally, I am always impressed by the effort to get the bells outside so early in the morning, and to get the high school bell choir up so early to play at that service. Rumor going around church was that it was the high school kids themselves who insisted on playing. How do you say no to that?

Wonderful pictures, Julie! The bells look so beautiful in that light, and you’re right…it WAS the kids that wanted to play bells on Easter morning at the sunrise service. Amazing!!
