Train Above Me

I grew up next to train tracks, but never had an experience like this one. I was sitting under a bridge when the train went by overhead.

The scary thing was, with my headphones on, I didn’t hear the train coming.

I felt the earth shake, looked up, and there it was.

So I thought it might be fun to try to capture the motion of the train overhead. Very slow shutter (1/15) on continuous shutter release produced an interesting result.

Then I thought it would also be cool to capture the motion of the train from the side. It actually wasn’t going by all that fast, but because the shutter was so slow, it appears to be zooming by, ummmmm, like a freight train. Ha!

    Hey Jules:

My dad was an engineer on freight trains. Sometimes we would go to the freight yard with him and get to have a ride. Always get nostalgic around trains.

    Thanks for this!

Whoa, took me a minute, but that train is moving in the first picture. How did you do that?
