The Junebug Sculpture was unveiled Friday night to kick off Metuchen’s Junebug Artfest.

The sculpture was created by Roy Chambers for the opening of Metuchen’s art festival. You can see more of Roy’s work by clicking here.

The tag at the bottom of the sculpture says it was created from reclaimed and recycled materials including “tuba bell, plastic bottles, copper flashing, wire, fireplace screen, faucet tubing, hubcap, and remnants of a patio swing.”

I think it’s awesome!

The eyes are cool!

There are many details to stare at, and wonder, hmm, isn’t it so cool that the artist used this thing to look like antennae…

…and these things for wings.

I love how the Junebug Artfest is bringing so many wonderful art activities to the town of Metuchen. Click here for a full program and be sure to save Friday evenings for a walk downtown! There are lots of activities and things to see. I LOVE my town!

Grex is not a bug fan, so this may be the closest he ever purposefully gets to a Junebug in his entire life. Thanks, Roy, for a beautiful addition to downtown Metuchen! And special thanks and congratulations to all the artists who will be sharing their work with us this month.
I love when the snowdrops blossom because it means spring is really coming....
I got trapped by darkness and took the long way home walking my bike and taking dark pictures....
Highlights from the Edgar Art Gallery feature the art of 8th grade students....
It wasn't exactly "snowmageddon" in Metuchen, but we had fun just the same!...
Julie, the photographs are beautiful… amazing clarity and depth of field.
Thanks for representing my artwork so well. Sincerely, Roy Chambers
I should do one with the sky in the background like the bug is flying — like the one you have on your site, Roy. Glad you like the photos, and glad you found the blog post! Yay! Your sculpture is really cool!
Congratulations, Roy! Wouldn’t it be cool if downtown Metuchen became a mecca for commissioned sculpture? What a draw that would be!
Julie, these photographs are just stunning! I am so happy the artist you are focused on Roy’s art and as a result, helped all of us sharpen our way of seeing the sculpture! Thank you so much! Linda
Very cool! In that 5th photo it kinda looks like WALL-E.
