G-rex is nine! I can’t believe it. While I’m still waiting for my old Mac to come home from Apple General Hospital (what a drama), I am still trying to set up my new Mac, and testing all the various settings and calibrations. Waiting for prints to come back from the lab before I proceed on client work too, so, in the meantime, here are some pictures from G-rex’s birthday.

Before I picked the G-rex up from school, I walked down to borough hall to get a picture showing how much the zelkovas have grown since they were planted 5 years ago in 2004. You can see more detailed pictures of the planting at the zelkova page on my Tree Grower’s Diary.

The zelkovas were first planted in July 2004. The picture above was taken just after they were planted. Compare this picture with the one above it, and wow! Those trees have grown quite well!

The guys.

G-rex’s favorite thing is “hanging out with the guys” so instead of a birthday party, he invited a couple of friends over.

I know one day I’ll remember the kids always walking on that wall on the way down that street.

Cupcake face.

I’m so glad my dining room table was actually cleaned of all the photography stuff in time for G-rex’s birthday! Look! There’s me in the mirror!

Wow! The light above my dining room table is kind of a nice light for a photo, huh?

There’s another nice picture.

In our house, we tend to do the “birthday weekend” concept instead of just one day. Seems like one day is never long enough for us to to tell each other how happy we are to celebrate a birthday. Above, I hung out with G-rex at tennis lessons and thought I’d take pictures of trees around the courts. In a few weeks, that gingko is going to be a beautiful yellow!

I took this picture because I just liked the branch structure of this oak.

There’s my G-rex! (He didn’t want me to take pictures of him in action, so this is the only picture I took during the lesson.)

In the foreground, sycamore leaves. In the middle ground, an oak.

I love this picture because in a few weeks, it has the potential to be really pretty. Left to right: ginkgo, sycamore, oak.

In the evening, G-rex got to pick where we went for dinner. Can you guess?

That little blue fishy is so cute!

G-rex was very specific on the kind of cake he wanted. He specified: yellow cake with vanilla frosting, covered with m&m’s that spelled “GREGO9.” The lesson I learned from this cake-decorating endeavor: I think I’ll stick to photography and leave the cake decorating up to the professionals! It’s pathetic!
Happy birthday, G-rex! I love you! Coming soon: more testing pictures from G-rex’s awesome birthday weekend!
I have so much fun taking shots of the shooters in the YMCA basketball league....
Muffins…. they do a body good! How fun to have a Boy’s Night for a birthday party!
Great photos of the party. One of Olenka’s friends called us to tell us, Dimitri photos were there. Dimitri had a great time! Thanks for having him.
Birthday dinner at Rainforest Cafe! Agent M had picked the same.
Happy birthday G-rex!
It was so funny because there were only a handful of tables occupied when we were there, and every one had the birthday song. I was really feeling the bad economy too. And I was so glad I got a burger with CHIPS. I took half the burger home, and almost all the chips. Ate the burger for lunch the next day, and it took me 3 days to eat all the chips. I actually feel like I got my money’s worth for once out of that place.
