In case you missed it last night, click the picture for a beautiful slide show! The tree above really stood out among all the trees I saw this weekend.
I love the color of the leaf, the sun flare, and the overall palette. But what I love most about it is the next picture showing the complex system of veins in the leaf that look like a giraffe’s design —>

The contrast in that dark leaf really is beautiful. This leaf makes me wonder: which came first — the giraffe or the leaf?

Here’s a picture of the front side of that leaf. It’s also interesting because the tree has dark red leaves, orange leaves, and yellow leaves all on the same tree. It looks like a Japanese maple in shape, but it must be some variety I’m not aware of. It’s beautiful! Anybody have an idea what it is?

The tree lives by this pond behind St. Joseph’s high school in Metuchen. When I say “behind” St. Joseph’s, what I mean is behind all the playing fields in the woods.

Here’s another tree near the pond. It’s really pretty back there! As I walked around the circular pond, I kept turning around and looking at the leaves in different light.

So my advice to you, if you’re still leaf-watching, is that every time you see a beautiful scene in front of you, or a beautiful tree, or a beautiful leaf, or an adorable little costumed munchkin, TURN AROUND and look at whatever scene is behind you. The light will be different, and there may be just as much beauty in that image as the one in front of you.

There’s also lots of weeds, but I love this picture. It has a “Nightmare Before Christmas” look to it.

There is so much color interest, and texture to draw from here. What do you see?

Late afternoon sun on a still pond in fall — one of my favorite things.
Pat me on the back! It’s January and I finally got my FALL LEAF pictures posted. You’ve GOT to see this slide show. I’ve ...
We closed our eyes and thought about how excited we would have been if it were snowing on the first day of winter....

I like parentheses too much. Maybe that’s the higher powers telling me to knock that crud off! (then again, maybe not)
LOL. I fixed it for you! Thanks for the comment!
Years ago, when I was just getting into photography, someone who wanted to nurture my budding hobby gave me the book, “Learning to See Creatively.”
The best tip that I took out of that book (there were SO many more, though) was “The #1 rule of creative photography: LOOK BEHIND YOU!”
I still love that book, and I go back to it often (I put it on Pg 3 of my favorite things: http://barefoot-memories.com/blog/careys-favorite-things/
So, Jules, I totally agree with you! Think you’ve got a great shot? LOOK BEHIND YOU! Think you’re in a crappy location where there’s nothing interesting? LOOK BEHIND YOU!
Ooh, beautiful leaves! I love the autumn leaves, but not so much the rain that comes with it.. ;D
So pretty. I really love the first one especially. You’re making me jealous with all your gorgeous leaves.. We’re barely changing out here, it’ll still be another couple of weeks before we’re transitioned and we STILL won’t be as pretty as what you’ve got. Darn Texas.
Beautiful, I just love Autumn. My family and I just went to the mountains last weekend to take in all the beautiful colors.
Gorgeous! I wish we had seasons here in Florida!
