There was about 5 or 6 inches of snow in Metuhen. Not exactly “snowmageddon” here, but easy to shovel and fun too. Above, the Metuchen Borough Hall building is photogenic in many situations, snow included.
Grex and I went for an early walk, hoping to get some fun photographs before the salting and shoveling were in full force. Later that day, we went sledding in Holmdel Park. Those AWESOME fun pictures are coming to the blog later to.
More pictures below!

Main Street down by the train station is usually plowed fairly quickly.

The Mary and Jesus statue in front of St. Francis Cathedral CYO building always looks interesting when it snows. I took this one when it snowed in December.

I took this one yesterday. Kind of interesting to measure how much snow we got by how much taller Mary’s hair gets.

This is my artistic side coming out.

The snow looks pretty on Mary’s hair.

Oooh. I noticed the thorn bush a few minutes after photographing the Mary and Jesus statue, and then started thinking about a theme.

The theme was continued when I noticed the beautiful butterfly on the mural in the alley by the ice cream shop, What’s the Scoop. It’s a really cool mural, in case you hadn’t noticed it there. I don’t know who painted it, but they did a great job!

I love all the details! (Took this shot in the December snow.)

This is my favorite part of the mural. Know who those characters are?

Some macro fun. Know what that is? Leave me a comment with a response like this: “Image #11 is …” If you get it right, I’ll send you an iTunes gift card! (Just a fun way to check to see if anybody reads these captions!)

Grex and I were having fun noticing all the cool shapes the snow made.

Here’s another one we liked.

We also liked how the snow made us notice things we normally wouldn’t notice. Grex liked the the shape the snow made atop the meters. I liked the contrast of colors that all the white brought out.

Snow O!

Know what that one is? It’s #16 if you want to leave me a comment guessing what it is.

Here’s another thing I never noticed before. The planter outside the What’s the Scoop looks like an ice cream cone, which is especially appropriate when it has snow on it.

In the middle of the storm, from the train bridge.

Main Street Metuchen from the train bridge.

On a snowy day, riding a train is a much better way to get around than driving. I love living in Metuchen.

That one’s #21. Leave a comment guessing what it is!

This picture makes me think of the Winter Olympics. Wish I could go. Sigh.

Another view of Metuchen Borough Hall in the snow.
Coming soon — sledding pictures in Holmdel Park!
I got trapped by darkness and took the long way home walking my bike and taking dark pictures....
I love hanging out with my family in Holmdel Park in all seasons!...
Tommy's Pond in Metuchen is a popular little sledding spot these days!...
Watching your childhood memories in the making makes me remember mine....
Jules -LOVE these pictures! I can enjoy the pretty snow (which SC never gets) by living vicariously through your lens! I particularly love the thorn bush shot. Metuchen looks SO much like Aiken, it’s uncanny!
But do they have any pine trees there? It’s not Aiken if there are no pines!
LOTS of white pines. Does that count?
It does remind me of Aiken, but we don’t get the beautiful snow!
One of the reasons I liked Metuchen in the first place was that it reminded me of Aiken with its canopy of trees over the streets. And I do remember this one giant snow storm in Aiken when Susan and I were in kindergarten. My dad’s car got stuck in the the circular driveway in front of Aiken Day School and I was so proud because the principal helped push us out. Funny thing about going to school in Aiken — as a kindergarten student, I normally walked home from school by myself. Wow, I TOTALLY can’t imagine that now — sending a 5-year-old off by herself. How times have changed.
It really does look like Aiken…especially that shot of Main Street. If not for the snow I would think it was Aiken! Plus, the picture of Borough Hall reminds me of the old Aiken Post Office…rounded building on a corner. Now don’t tell me Metuchen also has a fountain in the middle with two children holding an umbrella!!
Oh, and I remember that snow storm too!! My Dad’s VW bus couldn’t make it up the hill of our driveway! Seems we didn’t have power either and we cooked hot dogs in the fireplace. Great memories!!
The blue and white characters on the mural from left to right are Totoro, Chu Totoro and Chibi Totoro (his two companions in the woods). I’ve got a pic of Totoro as my icon on facebook and no one has ever asked me “What the heck is that, Bill?” So how cool to see it drawn on a mural in your hometown! I proudly tell my friends that you have been to an actual Totoro store! Were you allowed to take any pics there?
I would say the bells that make music in a windchime, a garden hose and a hand grip for going up the stairs at a playground. I always read your captions!!
@OldRoses got the windchime. Not a garden hose, but good guess, and YES! That IS a hand grip for going up the stairs! Thanks so much for reading and guessing!
windchime, hose, bike rack (writing without looking at other responses yet).
Great photos! Looks like such a sweet little town!
@OldRoses got the windchime. Not a bike rack though. Thanks for reading and guessing!
Shoot, I only guessed one out of three. #16 is a garden hose. #21 looks like soemthing from a playground, but I haven’t a clue which piece of equipment it is. Oh, wait! I just figured out what #11 is – my favorite garden accessory, a windchime. Great job. I’m a HUGE fan of your photography.
Awesome! You were the first to guess correctly for #11 — the windchime. I’ll email you to find out where to send your iTunes gift card! Thanks for reading!
I’ with Zak! Let’s have a slumber party at Jules!!
Jules can we come stay with you?
I so love the feel of Metuchen! Beautiful shots!
Hey Zak, you and Candy come on over!
