There aren’t many people out. But the UPS guy made it through the blizzard! He’s delivering Marisa’s beautiful Thank you cards! More pictures below!—>

This arborvitae normally points upright.

I had to walk down to Borough Hall this morning to pay our property taxes. (Punishment for waiting until the last day.) This shot is looking out from the front door.

Remember the snow pictures of the Mary-and-Jesus statue at St. Francis Cathedral from the other day? (The height of her snow hat is how we measure how much snow we’re getting.)

Yes, we do have pine trees here.

In addition to the UPS guy, the other cars were either plows or mail trucks. Seems other than that most people stayed in.

The Red Sunset red maple from a view I’ve been documenting since the year we planted it.

Kaptain Karl is very interested in the snow.

That’s Mike, getting started on the driveway.

Remember this view from earlier this morning?

That’s my dogwood, made heavier under the weight.

Planet Hoth.

An updated view of the Red Sunset red maple from this morning.

Cool thing about snow? My yard looks as good as anybody else’s for once.
Click here to see pictures I took later, including a snowball fight and some pictures after I made it to New York.
Click here for lots of awesome sledding pictures at Tommy’s Pond in Metuchen after the blizzard.
Check the blog later for an update. If the power stays on....
With my email down, I have plenty of time to take pictures of my trees, and something pretty to post along with the message that my email is...
We closed our eyes and thought about how excited we would have been if it were snowing on the first day of winter....
That is crazy. I can’t imagine living in that. The most snow I have ever seen was visiting my Mother in Montana one year, and it was an unusually unsnowy year at that time. Living in Texas, we considering an inch of snow to be a lot, haha. We are supposed to get some sleet tomorrow. Exciting stuff. Not as pretty as yours though.
Yikes! That’s so much snow.
We need to get some of that over here
Julie,
I was so moved by the UPS gentleman. In his book Punching In: The Unauthorized Adventures of a Front-lone Employee Alex Frankel describes his two-year urban adventure through the world of commerce. He proudly wore the brown uniform of the UPS driver, folded endless stacks of T-shirts at Gap, brewed espressos for the hordes at Starbucks, interviewed (but failed to get hired) at Whole Foods, enrolled in management training at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and sold iPods at the Apple Store.
His favorite place to work? You guessed it UPS!
My parents had a business for many years and the UPS Drivers became our friends. These men seemed to always be painting elderly folks homes during their vacations, coaching children’s sports teams, loved their families and had good things to say about UPS.
Thanks for giving us a positive view of a remarkable employee doing his job in a professional way, with a smile on his face during a hug snowstorm.
Cheers,
Lisa
This is simply beautiful, Jules! I’m sooo jealous..wish I were there to enjoy this lovely snow. South Carolina would close down for a month; a statewide crisis! Enjoy yourselves. LOVE your photos…I want some snow cream!
