I love this picture of my Grex on the subway. We were hanging out in New York on Friday, just me, Grex and Brad. I loved that day, the last weekday of spring break.
I need another week!

First stop: my desk at the Times to drop off a few things and say hi to all the people in the graphics department.

Next stop: C train.

Census ad on the wall of the subway car will “date” this picture series for me. Those triplets were adorable playing with their dad on the train.

Is it just me or does Brad look tall even in this shot, taken from a bridge way over his head?

You are supposed to direct your eye to the cute doggie in the photographer’s bag, nowhere else.

As I was taking this shot, some guys were yelling at me, “NO PICTURES! DO NOT TAKE PICTURES OF THE ANIMALS!” I think he had been stranded on the rock by his, um, friends. I love Central Park.

Turtles everywhere!

Grex is a big part of my history. Love you, Grex!

The woman sitting next to me was … wait … I have to get Brad to tell this story. Check back later…

We had lunch in a restaurant in the bottom of the Times building. Yummy awesome hamburgers and fries and really sweet tomatoes and fresh lettuce. Love the cashier’s helper! He has the t-shirt, apron and hat, and his mom let him punch in all the buttons on the cash register. I loved that. EDIT: Grex says, “That can’t be that kid’s MOM, mom. SISTER, maybe.” Ok, he’s probably right.

Brad’s favorite store in the universe: Kaufman’s Army/Navy in Times Square.

It may not be the biggest Army/Navy store in the world, and it may not be the smallest Army/Navy store in the world, but I bet you’d be hard-pressed to find a more crowded one ANYwhere. There are boxes on top of boxes on top of boxes in every corner and to move through the store, you have to step over things and squish your way through the other people.

Grex’s favorite store in New York: the giant Toys R Us in Times Square.

I just love that life-size T-rex. (After whom Grex is named, that’s G-rex, the Destroyer, for those of you who are new to the blog.)

I have always wanted to get a shot going down that red escalator. Finally did it! Yay!

Coming down the yellow escalator wasn’t so successful. Love the motion though.

I wanted Brad to take a picture of me standing in front of the Times building but I had to set the camera up first. Thanks, Brad! Love you!

Mike met us in Penn Station after he got off work. Yay!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a train so empty. Good Friday — the commuters left the city early I guess.

Bye Grex! Yeah, I had to head back to work after they went home.

Little note for all the people coming to NY next week: the Bradford pears are blooming. If you smell something fishy, that could be why.
This is the night the birch trees were planted in the courtyard of the New York Times, plopped there via crane....
I love hanging out with my family in Holmdel Park in all seasons!...
The wait for the New York City Fireworks was the best part....
The middle school graduation of 2009. I am so proud of Bradley and all the members of his class!...
Love the documentation of your boys! They will love these photos when they are older.
What a fun day! I love your documentation of it (and now I want a burger and fries, please). I’m a little concerned about that big stack of papers next to your desk–is that a workplace hazard waiting to happen?
Thanks Robin! I started that stack when we first moved to this building, so the bottom of the stack is now a historical thing. I no longer add to the stack. It serves as a virtual barrier between me and an emergency exit door right by my desk that gets a lot of non-emergency foot traffic.
lovely! they just finished blooming here… I’m so excited to get to smell them for another week! Believe me, I KNOW that smell… there’s a billion of them here!
Yay! Someone who totally gets me. Can’t wait to see you and the family! Have a safe trip!
