My dogwood is just now beginning to unfold from the winter that was.
Several more pictures of the budding progress of my various trees below.

Isn’t that a beautiful bud? (By the way, can you guess what that is in the background?

Dogwood blossoms are pretty at every stage of their unfolding, but you do have to get up close to see. Click here for lots of previous posts about my dogwood treeon the blog. Or click here for my dogwood journal. Or click this link for my dogwood anthracnose saga.

Peering at every part of the bud that my eyes can reach — that is peace to me.

On the opposite side of the yard — Grex’s purple leaf plum is covered in pink lace.

It’s nice how the plum trees blossom at the same time as forsythia (the touch of yellow you can just barely see in the background). The combination of rich yellow with pale pink is a defining palette of spring.

I LOVE this picture!

The Japanese red maple will be popping out any minute now. In late winter, from the end of January through March, here’s what I’m thinking as I’m walking down the street in front of my house — Can you hear it? Like car horns and motors running and water rushing. Can you hear that sound? It’s the sound of the trees busting and growing and thriving in an underground city, getting their fashions ready for the spring show.

A spider just like this one moseyed down a web from the top of my windshield to the top of the steering wheel as I was driving the other day. I’m not sure it’s possible for there to be a more dangerous driving situation. DUF, it’s called — Driving Under the influence of Fear. Can you guess where the spider in the picture is?
We closed our eyes and thought about how excited we would have been if it were snowing on the first day of winter....
Photography allows me the chance to observe and document subtle changes in naturally occurring hues. ...
The seventh photo is unbelievable! Awesome! That should be a print….
Oooh, thanks for noticing that one, Lee Ann. I love that one too! Something about the flow and focus of it. Thanks again!
I honestly sneezed after looking at the purple leaf plum.
Spring is here!
I LOVE the photo of the plum blossoms with the forsythia in the background! Is the spider on a fire hydrant?
Good guess about the fire hydrant, but no. It’s actually much higher than that.
Our plum tree blossoms only stayed on for about 5 days! I’m glad I managed to get a couple pics before it went to the all-leaf stage. It always seems like an all-too-short phase, but I wonder if the insanely warm weather sped it up a bit.
