I photographed this session featuring the newest addition to Katie’s family back in May, but just now got it all put together in an awesome slide show for her, and just in time for Katie’s birthday! I love the picture above. I was sitting on the floor asking Ryan, “What do you guys do together?” And all of a sudden, Jack was walking on the ceiling! How cool is that? I love it!

That’s Katie and the new addition, Charlotte.

I asked Jack what he likes to do in his room. Turns out he LOVES to look out the window.

Charlotte is adorable!

Don’t eat the rose until after the picture.

Those eyes, I SWEAR, have not been touched in photoshop. Somebody familiar with this family please leave a comment attesting to this child’s amazing real-life eyes, please?

I am totally loving watching Jack grow up.

This is the sort of shot that defines “lifestyle photography” for me — relationship, scale, and home.

I have a picture similar to this one of Brad when he was about Jack’s age. (The other day I was teaching Brad how to drive. Oh man, time goes by way too fast.)

I love this picture. It’s as if Jack has an instinct about what I might find interesting in a photograph and he just goes and does it.

We can call this “naptime” but really, he was just playing.

Charlotte was affectionately known as “mohawk girl” for a while. Since this shoot in May, though, her hair has grown out and now she has curls everywhere. Curly girl pictures coming in September or October!

I love her little toes in this shot!

Love the mohawk!

How tall is Jack?

A-ha!

I have a picture like this of Brad too, and I marvel at how tiny he was in that picture. That’s why I look for shots like this — shots that show the scale of things that don’t change (cars) to things that do (toddlers) are very interesting to me.

I love that Jack finds that tree so interesting. Remember, Jack? That’s a linden tree!

I love the composition of this shot, how the curve of people flows with the curve of the flower bed. It’s cool how the whole thing is punched by the angle of the setting sun.

Don’t try this at home! (Ken, if you’re reading this, I think you just got beat by your brother-in-law, not that there’s a contest or anything.)

Jack is learning to grill!

Not touched in photoshop, I swear!
