It only takes five minutes a day to snap a pretty leaf picture so I’m committed to documenting the trees this fall. Every day I’ll be posting a new picture in my Facebook album, “2011 Fall Trees.” Then once a week, I’ll post the picture on my blog for those of you who aren’t on Facebook.
Above, the first picture of fall is of my Japanese Red Maple, Sept. 23.

Above, something’s been munching on my purple leaf plum, Sept 24. In the Facebook album, I’ve been documenting camera settings and other details about the images, so if you’d like me to add those here too, let me know.

On Sept. 25, I went apple picking in Colts Neck, NJ, with one of my Wonder Years families. I love the picture above of one of the boys picking from a Red Delicious Apple tree in the Eastmont Orchards.

A few of the inner leaves of my greenspire linden tree were just beginning to turn bright yellow on Sept. 26. This is often the first tree in my yard to start showing color in late September, but it usually keeps at least a little bit of color through Halloween.

I thought it was interesting to note that on Sept. 27, the sugar maple tree’s samaras were heavy in the still-green tree.

On Sept. 28, my dogwood was showing some color here and there.

Today marks the last day of the first week of fall, and the weather was crazy. Sudden thunderstorms, torrential downpours, flash flooding, followed by clear skies and then more storms. I thought this picture of fallen maple and purple plum leaves in the puddles on my son’s treehouse captured a moment of beauty in the chaos.
Do you love fall as much as I do?
We closed our eyes and thought about how excited we would have been if it were snowing on the first day of winter....
Photography allows me the chance to observe and document subtle changes in naturally occurring hues. ...
The purple leaf plum is showing off his colors this week. What's happening where you live?...
Fall is definitely my favorite season! Especially the cooler, dry air (well, usually — not so much this year).
As always, beautiful photographs. We’re even getting fall color in Aiken. Night temperatures have been in the 40’s and it looks like summer is over!
